Summary: For a medium-sized tin blind bake shortcrust pastry:

Ingredients Ecclefechan Butter Tart

  • 2 eggs
  • 3 oz melted butter
  • 6 oz soft brown sugar
  • 6 oz dried fruit
  • 2 oz chopped walnuts
  • 1 tbsp wine vinegar


  1. Mix the eggs sugar and butter and mix in the other ingredients
  2. Bake in a moderate oven for about 30 minutes until set.
  3. Could be given a drizzle of icing
